Umax J700: USB and SCSI ?'s

Hey everyone... So a buddy of mine gave me an old Umax J700 with a 604e 233mhz processor in it. It used to used as a file server, which I guess it would be fine for. I am thinking about using it for a low-end audio recording station. Anyone ever use a system like this for something...

    Superdrive Not burning

Hey people, Not sure if anyone can help me here. For the last few months I guess, I don't burn that often, I haven't been able to burn CD's with either Toast or iTunes. They both start, and then after a few minutes teh computer kicks out a torched and worthless CD and then I get an error...

    12" Powerbook hidden RAM

I think that ram is soldered to the board, but I could be wrong....if it is, you might not want to mess with that. With a 512 and a 128 you're at 640, which I am pretty sure is the max for the 12". Good luck, Eddie

    Architecture Leap for PowerPC

Fryke...you know as well as any, if you wait until January, that 1.6 will likely be gone and the 1.8, with all its advantages will be the low end model, and very much in more peoples budget. Later, Eddie

    Important: Please sign this petition

Arden.... First, I fully dig your concern, and I think your comments and contributions to these forums are excellent....but don't use the argument that this is undemocratic. They are not kicking Davis out of office yet...he can still beat the recall if the voters choose him, and then all...

    Applescript and SUDO

OK, so I finally got FINK installed and lvoe that fact that I can load KDE's Kicker and use those applications. However, while I don't mind opening and X11 window, typing sudo kicker and then entering a password, my wife would never use this system if she had to do that. I want her to be able...

    The Photoshop 8 Thread

I give a second vote to Wickedkitten's theory. DarkMatter was the first thing I thought of when I saw them. IF you have PS 7, you can get a taste of it by holding down command (I think) when selecting 'About Photoshop 7'. This should bring up the splashscreen that was use in PS 7's beta...

    Epson/Gimp print anticlimax

First thought.... When usnig GIMP drivers, I am pretty sure you have to add your printer again using the installation method described in the READ ME that comes with the drivers. If I recall, you have to hold down command when clicking ADD, and then select from and ADVANCED tab...

    Made the Switch!?!

David Pogue's "OS X, The Missing Manual" is perfect. Gets into Unix stuff, but isn't overly geeky if you don't want that. There are better books for the Unix side. Pogue's is awesome if you just want to figure out where one thing from Windows went in OS X. Get it. Later, Eddie
