What will become of the friendly MP3?

Apple's the only one I've heard of who's using AAC, so I'm not sure the format is really going anywhere fast. If newer formats always took over old formats' places, the web would use PNG, and GIF would be history.

    How do .textClipping work files?

I'd imagine the oh-so-archaic resource fork. I think to see what's in the resource fork, you've got to use ResEdit, which may or may not run in Classic. Though perhaps by now there is an OS X app to view resource forks? Anybody?

Why do you place every single app in your dock?

I have only one item that is always in my dock: the Finder. Not that I'd notice, since it's hidden and all. Application launching is done through MaxMenus, and switching is handled by LiteSwitch. There's an alias of my trash can on my desktop. In the lower-right hand corner. Where it...

    How do .textClipping work files?

They're just regular text clippings. Double click their icon in the Finder to view their contents. You can copy 'em and paste 'em into other apps or drag-and-drop 'em, but editing them is, for whatever reason, not possible. There are also picture clippings, URL clippings, and I think...

    ipod stuff

Using the Terminal or the various shareware iPod apps, yeah, it is. Use cd /Volumes/iPod/iPod_Control/Music/ and then browse each of the annoying little folders.

    AppleScript from PHP?

Thanks, but exec("osascript /path/to/tuna.scpt"); does not work. Cron job it is, unless I'm just doing something terribly wrong.

    <----- where is this guy?

I was wondering the same thing. The regular smiley is now a smiling apple?! Come on, WE HAVE STANDARDS, PEOPLE. I would have put a smiley after that to express my jest, but THE DAMN THING IS AN APPLE.

    AppleScript from PHP?

Does anyone know of a simple way to run an AppleScript when a PHP page is hit? Specifically... http://www.waferbaby.com/software/tuna/ :)

    platinum vs aqua

What I like to keep in mind is that OS X is still technically a 1.X release (though Apple would like to disagree) and it has lots and lots of catching up to do in every area. Apple has plenty of experience in building a nice system, and I'm sure it'll come into play sooner or later. I'm just...

    iTunes IPs

The dyndns.org service has a nice OS X client that i've been using. Never had any problems with it.

    CSS Menu

If your links are surrounded by a DIV, wouldn't you want to color the DIV's background and not the individual links'?

    CSS Menu

Wouldn't you just add a background: attribute to .menuborder?

    big changes from versiontracker.

Jesus. These guys'll do anything for ad impressions. A once decent-looking site, butchered. Gag. EDIT: It could be worse. :) http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.versiontracker.com

    New Apple stores! In Seattle!

Downtown Chicago's still waiting... :( We've got a crazy lookin' empty shell where the Gap used to be. And a big Apple sign out front. But it's taking forever...

    New iPod SW. Old iPod

If you did get the new features, what would the incentive be to buy a new iPod?

    Music Store Restrictions?

I really really like this idea, but I'm a little worried that the files are crippled in some way. When I go to create a new account, it tells me that I can "burn any unchanged playlist up to 10 times" and "play music on up to three Macs." Are the files I'd buy from the service just regular...

...And you Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead is at the very top of the Rock list! THEY ARE GUNNA BLOW UP LIKE *NSYNC NOW. Awesome! Seriously, it was all good and heart-warming to see 'em there. Really an underrated band. Check 'em out and buy their records. :)

    platinum vs aqua

I don't mind brushed metal so much, I just wish that it would be used consistently, both throughout the system (since having two GUI styles in the same OS just doesn't seem quite right), and between different apps... Safari has no window borders, like Aqua. iChat has thin, Platinum-esque...
