PROBLEM SOLVED So it is true you can only solve things when you aren't trying :P I had given up on it for a long time, then yesterday I did a desktop cleanup and deleted everything on the desktop and restarted my computer and there that hard drive icon was and I left some stuff on the desktop...

I am looking for solutions that do not involve downloading anything. Thank you.

Can you download an upgrade? All I can find on the apple store is the disk.

It said all fonts were acceptable or not needing validation or something of the sort, and I have preceded to back up my preferences folder and delete, but the desktop still isnt working... could it be another user-type problem not in the preferences folder?

It was using the photo album or whatever its called template, and it won't let me check the enable as hyperlink box.

On iWeb 1.1.2, how do I make an image link to a file when clicked? So when you click the picture, it will download a file.

Then why would new stuff I download show up?, and by the way the icons are there, they are just invisible because if I click in the right place, the icon will suddenly appear. I will try as you said, though.

Simple user account. The admin account and the other simple user account work fine. And the desktop has always worked, so I don't know what you mean about restrictions.

Can we just try to single out the problem? Some helpful things: 1) It only affects my user, so I am thinking it is a problem with a file in my library, maybe preferences? 2) Downloads show up when I download them. 3) The whole desktop icons that show up (the ones recently downloaded) reset...

Okay so I also tried safe boot mode, using shift during start up then I restarted but its still like this... I don't know what else to do..

Sorry for the multiple posts, it didn't seem to work before when I clicked posted it. Okay, so I did the thing two times, and it came up with some checks then "This Macintosh HD appears to be OK." or something of the sort, and then rebooted it, and the desktop icons still are not showing up...

Two things: 1) It says: "1. If you do not develop software, verbose and single-user modes are only needed when troubleshooting the computer for a startup issue." and obviously, I am not having that problem. 2) It doesnt say anything about -fsck on that documentation... what does that do?
