    USB Wireless adapter compatibility?

I think really no "drivers" are used (and thus needed). I installed a Belkin USB adaptor on a G4 tower and I am almost certain I did not used any kind of driver software. I think once connected and powered up the device will show up in the Network Preferences (click on the OSX system preferences...

Problems using Disk Utility to copy DVD-R

Any chance that Sony has put some Digital Rights limitations on the DVD? Otherwise you could record content and make copies to sell. So you would have to go through the standard hack and find some share ware software to open the Sony DVD, make a new copy of the contents w/o the restrictions and...

    Classic trouble!

Note the current Startup Disk selection, which is a Mac OS X volume. - it is telling you that you should see an icon of your hard drive that contains your OS X operating system and you should write down its name. If you have other hard disks connected to you computer they will show up as well...

    Powerbook G4 wont startup

I suppose one could try the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Although they may not see much apple business, it should not take a brain surgeon to replace the hard drive (opening the case is the most difficult thing). If you need a new HD might as well get a larger sized one. BTW to run the fsck all you...

    Mac desktop X11 and back

Command is an apple OS and keyboard key, it has the apple and four leaf clover on it. I have no idea how to "emulate" with a PC keyboard. Can you go back to preferences so that both X11 and OS X are showing (I think they call this rootless mode)? Just make the X11 window nearly the size of the...

My Macs Are Slower Than My PC Off Cable Modem

www.unbunto.com I had heard of Knoppix which is also a CD based Linux just last night. I am probably missing the text but I can't see where The Unbuntu site says you can burn to a CD and run off the CD. http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html or http://www.knoppix.net/

    Up-dating the System?

I agree - I download the system updates unless I know for sure I do not need the software suggested (but this is rare - for example any airport updates I ignore because my iMac does not have airport). My experience has been they are quite stable and really cause no problem.

    Sharing Mail across two Macs

I think that pane is showing you where your account's information is stored and it is dimmed because you cannot change where this particular account stores this information. Backing up strategy

Also, Retrospect runs everynight and does an incremental backup to the backed up files. I think the "sync" programs I mentioned also do incremental backups. Your method would give you a single day snapshot of your hard disk.

    Backing up strategy

When I backup I don't backup the system per se, since I have the OS install disks. Presumably if the hard disk dies you would have a new disk and probably people would recommend starting with a new fresh installation of the OS. And so I don't know if multiple OS files on a back hard disk are an...

    Powerbook G4 wont startup

As a start you can boot from the install disk and use Disk Utility to examine the internal hard drive. Insert disk and book holding the c key down. Since it was working and now not, one possibility is a failing hard disk - and usually the place to start.
