    music store error

Yep, 504 errors here. I'm outside the USA so guess there's no point trying any further anyway! (probably why it's giving errors - overloaded with Europeans trying to access it!!!!) I wonder how long before we here of people hacking the system. Someones bound to try.

Anyone else starting to grow hate towards Apple?

I appreciate it that it's frustrating when this happens but it has to be this way. Otherwise people will never buy anything as they will always be waiting for the next product launch date to arrive. Also, it would make it near impossible to sell off old stock. If it does what you want and...

    OmniWeb 4.5sp1 - 4.5sp9

OW and webcore - very interesting! Seeing as I can't get the sneaky peak (haven't stumped up any cash) can someone post a screenshot with a nice looking site making use of the new webcore stuff please? I know it will probably look the same as existing OW versions but still - it would be...

    Away with tables.

CSS is way to go dude! I had been using CSS for ages for simpler stuff like font styles, background colours and so on but have finally taken the plunge into poistional stuff now. With careful planning it's possible to vastly reduce your code size leading to quicker page loads, reduced...

    Safari with Tabs (v62 - v71)

My thoughts too on those tabs. In a way they are upside down. The tabs should be attached to the area they change. These almost look like they will change the toolbar and address field area rather than the actual HTML rendering area. That said, I can see why they have done it that way as due...

    Screen size to design for?

I hereby shake TommyWillB by the hand! You get it - now if we can just work on the rest of the world.

OS X updates on magazine cover CDs??

To clarify - I did indeed mean the smaller updates (10.2.1, 10.2.2 etc and not 10.1, 10.2) Once they get into double figures in size (mb) downloading over a modem gets a real pain. So why won't Apple allow them on the mags??

OS X updates on magazine cover CDs??

What do people think about Apple's policy (as I believe it is) of only allowing you to get OS X updates (e.g. 10.2.4) via Apple. As a modem user at home it's no fun downloading them over the 'net. Luckily we have a stupidly quick connection at work so I just take my iBook in every now and again...

    Screen size to design for?

That's a fair enough point if the site is like Ed says, just your own bit of fun. If it's a commerical site or something like this site that is going to get viewed by a large and varied audience then surely that audience is far far far far far far more important than 'your flexibility as a...

Is this the year of the laptop?

My 'last' mac was a laptop (ibook 800) a couple of months ago and I love it. I don't touch my desktop at all anymore (although it is rather old by comparison!)

    Screen size to design for?

I wouldn't get too hung up on screen size. As someone else pointed out, not everyone runs their browser full screen. Also, why build a site to an exact pixel size if the content would fit just as well in a browser window that was 20 pixels smaller (or wider for that matter) than you had planned...

    Protect yourself from spam! (theory)

How about using javascript to document write the email link into the page - but rather than doing it in one clean hit, write it out in bits so a robot wouldn't understand the individual bits even if it did look at the javscript itself. Something like.... function someFunction() {...

    FTP & Finder

Yeah - I've just had similar 'fun' with Finder FTP. Got my first full system crash for over a year (boo hoo!) and my first at all on my iBook. Bah! Read only is a big limitation too isn't it? Will be quite cool when it works properly and allows read/right access. Until then I think they...

    Protect yourself from spam! (theory)

It's amazing how having your email address on a site can increase your spam - I speak from experience. I had a load of email addresses on one of my sites (support, feedback, etc). As a result each one got scanned and all of a sudden I'm getting around 100 spams a day. As I had used so many...

    S/MIME on OS X????

Cheers for the reply. Unfortunately it has to be s/mime so GPG isn't an option in this situation. As I said, the question was on behalf of someon else and I believe the emails in question are order details from an on-line credit card payment thing. The system that processes them uses s/mime...

    S/MIME on OS X????

Can anyone here shed any light on using S/MIME emails on Mac OS X? It appears on the face of it that only Netscape's mail client supports it (I haven't actually tried it myself yet as I'm asking on behalf of someone else). Anyone got any experience of it? Can it be done using a UNIX...

    MACOSX has changed

Well said! A PC has never made me actually physically smile because of the way it worked or did something - my Mac makes me smile loads! For me it's all as simple as that.

How come nobody mentioned this? ColdFusion on OSX?

Don't forget good old JSP and Tomcat! JSP and custom tags are pretty similar to Cold Fusion as far as I'm aware (indeed isn't CF available now a JSP taglib kinda thing - the J2EE version???) And best of all JSP/Tomcat is free. I have it setup with a postgres db on my ibook and it runs...

Why the volume key lag in Jaguar?

My new G3 800 iBook (640mb Ram) does pretty similar things. Pressing the volume keys is more pot luck than anything. Often it lags and takes 2-3 seconds to respond. It also often just goes to any old volume it feels like. For example, sometimes if you keep pressing the 'volumne up' key it...
