    moderator suggestion

Since this is in the cafe..I'm going to comment, I understand I'm not a moderator, however I am the one who triggered this particular post. When I went to make that post inquiring about the off topic'ness, I considered not posting it because it was only making it more off topic. However...

Former VP Al Gore on Apple board of directors

Hm.. I'm not saying the topic is wrong by any means, and I believe removing posts is wrong, however it makes no sense to have a topic on war in the apple news and rumors section. You say read others..all the ones I've read (notably not as many as others) I've had very few where I've...

New to programming, which language is better?

I think it all depends on whether you want a mac osx language or something you could have a career off of, granted I don't know objective c but I would think that c++ or such would be my choice, as there's plenty of uses for it. I guess it's all subjective like we've been saying..

    Mask IP?

Ok...At first I was going to say : "one word, google." than I thought about it.. Seriously...Why should we make an effort to find anonymizers to answer your question? I mean, people should put some effort into answering their own questions, here's the link...

Earthlink DSL was the first and only DSL service I had, I had it for many years. Overall it was very good, I had a Zyxel Prestige 641 which they gave me free (which I still have) this was a modem/router built in, great machine, of course they didn't give it out long after that since...

    Pick up phoneline?

One word, broadband. Seriously, I know you are in NZ however I know some people in NZ with broadband and that is your best bet. What you are requesting is possible to code, but not very easily and definately not very securely. Not to mention when it dials up it will have to somehow give...

Just to add to this... Now I have my internet connection via a 11mbps wireless connection to my place of employment, although I only get 5.5mbps until I get a stronger antenna (who needs 11mbps in their house?) And I have 6 machines...5 windows (i know i know..roommates, and I don't have...

Airport, OS X Server, and a bunch more...

This is what I'd do I think : Earthlink Modem | 8 or 16 port switch | Airport Base AND 802.11b Access Point (if you already have one, if not go with the 802.11b...

    Chat Night?

I believe this is a good idea, and really...depending on how it's done, it could eventually lead to people being in the chatrooms more often. I'm not sure how you do your chats, however I'm very familar with IRC (as in, ran irc servers on dalnet and undernet, been ircop on both for many many...

How do you check the version of a unix binary?

However like I said..I'd say 4 out of every 5 will say in "man command" --help and all is is guessing, why try -v, than --v, than -help, than --help , instead of just doing "man blah" and finding out for sure ? the man command is your friend, use it.

How do you check the version of a unix binary?

Most of the time you do a -v flag or something of the such, for every command though, I'd try "man command" it should tell you what to use to check the version of that specific program.
