calibrated color profile resets on reboot?

I've created a calibrated color profile and I love the way my screen looks. But, if I reboot, the colors revert back to the way they looked before I created the profile. Now, if I go and look and see what profile is selected, it's STILL my calibrated one (it's just not actually getting used). So...

how do I edit 2 .mov files?

So I have these 2 movie files in .mov format and I want to combine them into a single file but with some frames from each in a particular order--I don't want to just tack one onto the end of the other. How do I do this? I opened up iMovie to see if it could do it but I can't even open/import...

    scanner recommendation for OS X?

I just bought an EPSON Perfection 1250 and downloaded the "trial" drivers from EPSON's website: http://www.epsondevelopers.com/macscan/scantofile.jsp It works great in OS X using these trial drivers. The only problem I've had is launching the TWAIN driver from inside GraphicConverter...

    Two problems - please help...

On #1 - it's not that. This is not a normal spinning up sound. I'm quite computer experienced (no prob on the newbie stuff--hard to tell from a quick post). It sounds like a piece of software might be forcing a sector seek every 2 minutes or something. I'm going to test whether it's only...

    Two problems - please help...

As of last night, two weird things started happening. Here goes: 1 - Every couple of minutes my hard disk (I think) makes a quick "shoook" sound. 2 - I use the Mail button in the Internet Explorer toolbar to send links to web pages to people and all of a sudden (I didn't even shut down...

How do I use another Partition or HD as my Home folder?

I think for all those involved in this post, it is important to read what Mike Bombich has to say about moving your /Users directory. He makes some good points regarding Netinfo and how to copy files without losing permissions (using the "ditto" command). You can find his site here...

    How to set kind/creator?

I use a fantastic utility called XRay to change type/creator codes and many other properties of files. It rocks and the shareware fee (if you decide to register) is only $10. Kent!

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

I know about shift-command-tab (after the first command-tab) but that one extra keystroke and it comes AFTER you do the initial command-tab. It's just not as efficient as a single alt-tab to switch back and forth between two apps. Kent!

Are "virtual desks" possible on OS X?

Thanks egilDOTnet! I was looking for something like this, too. The only problem Space.Dock has it that it leaves the Finder windows up (too bad) but I can live with that. Kent!

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

vic, You can't tear it off (I don't think) but ASM duplicates the menubar Application Switcher Menu thing from OS 9. But I don't think you can tear it off. Kent!

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

oh, and i know Command-Tab works to move between apps and using Shift goes in the other direction but in Windows I can Alt-Tab once then Alt-Tab again and arrive at my original app, even when 10 are open. Kent!

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

THIS IS HILARIOUS! Guess what I do for a living? I design web based (and non-web-based) software to control mechanical systems in buildings--primarily Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning systems. (among other things) The above IS a typical help desk call for me! And I can...

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

You're a tough crowd. Another thing I miss from Windows is fast window resizing and the ability to turn live resizing on and off, but I hope that will be fixed in 10.2 as speculated (at least the speed). Another thing I miss is <Alt>-<Tab> to switch applications--insofar as a single...

    iTools @mac.com e-mail - can I check it from a PC?

Is there any way to check my @mac.com e-mail from a PC? The e-mail link from the iTools website doesn't work because I'm not on a Mac. Any way to do this? It's not pop3 mail, right? Kent!

HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL: Things that I miss from Windows

All right RacerX, I concede. Also what simX said is correct--you can't accomplish the actions we were describing _in the same way_ with the Finder--you have to scroll lots. That was the only original point. I was only a bit ****ed off because of the comments like "completely missed by"...
