Apple to charge for iTools (or .mac)?

Slaptech is reporting that Apple will announce that it will begin charging for iTools use soon. It cliams it will come with the ".mac" changeover. If this is true, I hope it is limited to "premium" services and doesn't include mac.com e-mail or HomePage. I think Apple will see a wave of wrath...

    QuickTime Satellite

If you have the old-school monster satellite dishes in your back yard you can set it to those coordinates and pick up the broadcast. One of the advantages to having one of those old eyesores in the back yard is that you can pick up all kinds of broadcasts. I have friends who set their VCRs to...

Some design software buying advice needed...

Thanks every one for the advice. The project that I'm working on is a non-profit, academic project so I'm almost certain an education license would due. I was really more concerned with features than anything else in terms of academic v. consumer. If anyone does have experience with...

Some design software buying advice needed...

I'm in the process of buying all new design software in order to take a Web site and magazine that I run "to the next level". I've been using a lot of trial software that a colleague of mine picked up a trade show for me including Flash MX, Photoshop 7, GoLive 6, and Indesign 2.0. These trials...

Anybody feel like getting ticked off?

I guess the thing that irritates me is that it seems he thinks Apple is no good unless they start everything from scratch. His whole point is that Apple's innovation hasn't led to anything beyond the Mac. Well, unless I'm mistaken, the iMac G4 is not your father's Macintosh. And Mac OS X in...

Anybody feel like getting ticked off?

This article by PC Magazine's John C. Dvorak worked in getting me mad. Basically he says that it's time for the Mac to go away, and that Apple has nothing new to offer. I guess Redmond, Wa. is where all the innovation is happening. d8n_two

    NBA finals and Apple ads

Actually, Shaq made all of his teammates get iPods. He said he was tired of everyone bringing 50 CD cases to the back of the bus/plane. He said if they want to sit back there with him, they better make a trip to the Apple store. Oh yeah, the two players that they interviewed, also walked out...

Any Discover Card users out there?

I've had my card about four years and a couple of my friends who use theirs as much as I do went platinum in their fifth year. As for Quicken, the last time I tried it, it worked perfect. That was about a month ago though. Since I'm in between apartments, I have no Internet connection for...

Any Discover Card users out there?

Like others, Discover Card was my first card, and I like the online tools (free payment, Quicken downloads, etc.) it provides. Plus, I'm darn close to reaching platinum status. I recieved the reply listed above, and I sent a reply back telling them that I'm strongly considering switching...

Any Discover Card users out there?

There are some sites that I just feel safer using these e-wallet type tools because they don't have the reputation of the Amazon.coms. This issue is really more about their non-support for ANY Mac OS than the value of the tool. Macs are more and more compatible with things these days, but...

Any Discover Card users out there?

I'm just curious how many people in here that use OS X also use a Discover Card. As many of you may know Discover offers an online tool called DeskShop that is similar to other card's e-wallet tools. Deskshop 1.0 supported Mac OS 9 and back. I really liked using it because it created...

    Apple releases 700Ghz Mac!

On the local news tonight at 5 they talked about a revolutionary new Macintosh that was made available yesterday. Apparently the public version of the eMac comes packed with a whopping 700 Ghz G4 processor for only $1099. Who needs a G5? I guess the stories writer is pretty clueless...

    MWSF keynote & Tech TV

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone know of TechTV will cover the keynote at MWSF like they did in NY? My new ISP is so slow it would be useless to try and watch streaming video, but I have TechTV which would be ideal. If anyone knows, let me know. thanks, d8n_two

    Carracho Servers READ THIS

At the end of 2000, I was a college senior, and there was a huge raid at my university that cost several people their computers because they had pirated music on their hard drive. Eventually all computers were returned except for one person's who had set up an FTP site for people to download...

Corel Draw 10 in OS X

I just installed Corel Graphics Suite a couple of days ago. It worked fine until yesterday. Now, it gets to the splash screen and "unexpectedly quits". All the other programs in the suite work fine and Draw 10 works fine in Classic. Corel told me to re-install OS X. Did that, same results...

    Acrobat Reader IE plug-in

Does Acrobat Reader 5.0 for OS X come with web browser plug-in so that it is possible to view PDFs within the browser? Every time I click on a PDF file it downloads and opens Preview. I'd really prefer to have them open within the browser. Any help is appreciated. d8n_two

    iPod for Windows

The ZDNet article at the link below gave me a pretty good laugh. It predicts that there will be an iPod for Windows. While that will be true in the sense that software is being developed to make iPod and Windows compatible, the writer seems to think that Apple needs to produce a Windows iPod...

    11-22: iDisk crashing Finder

It appears. I open one of the folders. It starts to retrieve the files, and about 5 minutes later I can't do anything in Finder and have to Force Quit it. Is that the proper definition of "crash"? d8n_two
