    Arstechnica on the Big Switch

I think they are pushing the iPod product line because it has more mass appeal than Macs because people will have to learn how to use them, buy Mac software that they've probably already bought for PC, etc. I think the Intel switch is a step closer to mass-market Mac appeal.

    still no aussie store

They don't though. UK songs are more expensive than European ones because of other factors such as corporate taxation, minimum wages, labour legislation, etc. It's a lot more complicated than just exchange rates.

    IBM G5 Dual-Core 2.5 ghz

IBM doesn't seem very focused on anything. They've sold off a lot of their product areas, most recently their PC sales division.

Not able to read most dvd's

Sounds like your drive is screwed. I had exactly the same problem on my Windows laptop. Some discs would work fine, some wouldn't work at all and some would work fine for a while before refusing to work. The "solution" to my particular problem involved pressing down on a certain part of the...

    Blasts hit London

Part of Birmingham has just been evacuated as a "precautionary measure": http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4668313.stm Btw, for those that don't know, Birmingham is the second-largest city in the country after London.

    Blasts hit London

Yeah, the tube is the underground. It's just that I live about 80 miles away from London so I have to catch the train to London Waterloo and then switch to the tube. I can catch the tube train at any time, but obviously the time I catch it is limited by the time I arrive at London Waterloo.

    Blasts hit London

I read in an article today that police presence on the tube this morning was quite sparse which I found surprising. I have to travel on the tube in two weeks time so last night I cancelled my tickets and rebooked them 30 mins earlier because I thought there might be delays due to security...

Steve calls father who's son died over an iPod

Yeah, in the olden days, teachers and policemen used to abuse children. Ok, they still do, but what I mean is that they were allowed to in those days (in fact, it was actively encouraged).

    Blasts hit London

I think that may be just the older generation. My grandfather's against muslims, gays, blacks etc without truly knowing why. My mum doesn't like blacks even though she's a Christian and shouldn't really do that kind of thing. It's because they were brought up that way. The truth is, events like...

Can't connect to the internet via Motorola V550

I'm trying to use GPRS to access the internet on my Powerbook via a bluetooth Motorola V550 running on the Vodafone network (UK). I think I've set it up correctly because iSync works. I can connect to the server, then it says "Authenticating..." and then disconnects me. This would suggest that...

    Blasts hit London

It was nice to see the way everyone was so calm though, and there was a great sense of community spirit. It reminded me of the general spirit that kept people going through the Blitz. That was the general impression I got. That also steadied the FTSE because it didn't really affect consumer...

Steve calls father who's son died over an iPod

Has Jobs got children? It sounded from the article like he had, which would explain why he could "feel his pain."

    Motorola iTunes Phone Thread

This could just be a prototype, of course. A petition would be a bit over the top, to be honest. It's a lot easier to show companies how much you dislike their products by simply not buying them.

How to connect Powerbook 17" Using Netgear Double 108 mbps Wireless Firewall Router?

I've got a Netgear 54g router and it just detected the network and asked me if I wanted to connect to it. Things become more difficult if you've activated encryption though. You need to click the Airport icon at the top of the screen and select Other. You then need to type in the name of the...

    Building my Mac?

Yeah, that's one of the fun aspects of owning a PC (that's if you get your kicks from that sort of thing, of course).

    Websites running away from Qucktime?

Yeah, that happens with me although I often have to wait until it finishes anyway because it tends to skip frames etc. if it hasn't finished downloading for some reason, even if the section it is trying to play has already been downloaded.

I'm afraid you can't build them from scratch.

    Motorola iTunes Phone Thread

I completely agree with the people who say that a phone should just be a phone, but it's easier to carry around one phone than it is to carry a phone, an MP3 player and a camera for example. I'm one of those minimalist people who prefer multi-function devices to lots of individual ones.

    Motorola iTunes Phone Thread

Yeah, I agree. There's not really anything new or innovative. They've just added the iPod interface and software to a phone.

    I don't understand what's wrong with Tiger. I think it's great.
