    alubook update today?

Why have the upgrades slowed down?!?! When I first "switched" 3 years ago, Apple gave me reason to buy 5 (FIVE!) PowerBooks in the first 18 months... Since I bought my 17" in February of last year the only upgrade has been to a 1.33 GHz processor... Where's the new stuff? I want a new...

Finally found the world's biggest idiot! (PC'ing his G5...)

my parents wouldn't have a clue that a Dual G5 isn't meant to emit blue light through the grille... perhaps his don't either?! also, perhaps they don't know that the G5 normally operates on OS X?!? who knows? he's still a useless git...

Finally found the world's biggest idiot! (PC'ing his G5...)

I'm afraid I hope his parents DO find out what he did... Instead of being honest, telling his parents what he'd really like and probably gaining their complete understanding, he took a superb $3,000 computer and completely f***ed it up... he then posted his "mod" on the web for all to...

    Jan 24th predictions / 20th Anniversary.

So, now we wait until tuesday, 3rd February?! (I don't think I can stand another week like the last one!!!) Does anyone else think the timings are strange? And why a reduction in price unless they plan to bring out something else to replace it soon afterwards???

Apple - two words to consider: "Home Automation"

karavite - I love your turn of phrase - you got me laughing out loud again, much to the bemusement of my girlfriend! Thank you... I'm just imagining your entrance into the X-Files chat room- what an easy mistake to make... too funny! Apple could do the house control thing (but I don't...

internet banking / vpc / safari / windows vs. mac

Thanks for the info, guys... However, it's HSBC who tell me straight up that they don't support Macs... I think there's a comment I could make about banks, but probably shouldn't!!! ;-)

Apple - two words to consider: "Home Automation"

"Nation paralyzed by latest toaster worm. 6 million burnt bagels in north east cause panic as supplies dwindle." LOL! I don't think it's just me... I have HUGE faith in Apple and their products... I know they're not perfect but I would be completely happy for it to be an Apple system...

Apple - two words to consider: "Home Automation"

karavite - you've hit the nail on the head... I used to work for a construction company that promoted "smart homes", but it was all Windows based... The lack of standards in our devices is definitely the problem behind everything today - Apple could certainly solve this (We certainly know...

iLife -- appears I'm screwed and must pay another $50?

Funnily enough, it doesn't surprise me! I DO expect Apple to make money. Last year I think I spent about $30,000 on Apple gear... No doubt some of it was profit for them (good! why? because profit = investment in R&D etc. = better kit for us) However, taking an application like iPhoto...

iLife -- appears I'm screwed and must pay another $50?

RacerX I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one! To my mind, the idea of making one's Mac "the centre of one's digital world" (or whatever the strapline was!) included the software that came with it... (because it was!) Now, however, it's not included. So, you CAN make...

    Restoring Entourage Mail

Whenever I've upgraded my laptops I've simply copied the "username/documents/microsoft user data" folder to my new installation of Entourage... This gives me all my original messages / addresses / birthday information etc. You will still need to input your connection settings passwords...

internet banking / vpc / safari / windows vs. mac

Some expert knowledge needed please! I want to use my PB for Internet banking with HSBC. HSBC UK supports Safari / Mac. HSBC Dubai / International doesn't... (but they do have internet banking for Windows) I therefore end up paying US$ 50 to send each faxed transfer request...

A stupid query - on iSight

I tried using iChat when visiting my parents in the Summer... They've only got an ISDN connection at their house (no DSL available :-( ) and it wouldn't work, trying to connect to someone with DSL 512 kb "Don't believe the hype" (In my experience, 128 just won't cut it! Sorry!)
