uControl (What's this guy running on?)

Adding on to this argument: and how many times does one curse after hitting the caps lock key by accident? :)

    Isn't the CRT officially dead?

If you care to compare the prices of the education eMac and the iMac, also taking into account the fact that the iMac is too flimsy for classroom use, you'll understand why. The iMac also only has 1024x768 resolution, wheras the eMac has 1280x960. I'd much rather have an eMac for this reason...

    It's Here - 10.1.5

For you people excited about the possibility to get Quartz anti-aliasing in Carbon apps, go get Silk from Unsanity (http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15012&db=macosx) It enables Quartz text in all Carbon programs, without the need for any individual updates! It certainly works...

Help! Very strange stuff showing up in Console

I had a peep in Console just now, and was suprised to see some very strange stuff that certainly doesn't look like normal system messages. This is a snippet from Console.log: Queue entry checksum mismatch : 0 May 30 11:46:51 kanetti53 lookupd[205]: DNSAgent: dns_send_query_server - timeout...

Ah, I keep forgetting where those sneakypeeks can be found. Address, anyone?

    Dock Or Taskbar?!

After a while of using OS X I started to dislike the lack of organisation the dock offers. So, currently I use DragThing (marvelous app with lots of other great features too) to keep my favorite apps and I only use the Dock for showing active apps and a link to my partitions and my Downloads...

EscapePod released! (Ambrosia software unsupported utility)

I was wondering about that, too, not that it matters. Isn't 'delete' the equivalent to 'backspace' on a PC and 'forward delete' equivalent to 'delete'?

    Someone try jaguar?

Ah, windowish or not, I find this very useful. It can be frustrating going through a long list of open applications every time you simply want to swap between the two apps you're currently working with. Windows, on the other hand, can be pretty frustrating because if you have 10 browser windows...

    Jaguar Terminal International chars??

I don't think it's a Terminal-related problem. I can't input scandinavian characters when in [localhost], but if I ssh to my university I have no problem viewing and typing ö,ä,å (providing String Encoding is set to ISO Latin 1 in Terminal prefs > Shell). So it would seem the problem is with...

    Apple To Drop Aqua?! (WTF?!)

Just thought I'd point out that according to Oxford's Advanced Learner's Dictionary the past tense and past participle of 'spell' is spelled or spelt. :D

    Four "nfsiod" processes running

    Ok, thanks for the info!

    Little dot in red button

Terminal also uses the black dot to signify there are active processes.

    iBook 600 and OS X.1/X.2

I'm running 10.1 on a 400 MHz iMac, and it's fine for me. I'm not saying more speed wouldn't be appreciated. :) Occasional hangups happen, but general speed and responsiveness is fine, so it should certainly be fine on a 600 MHz iBook. On the other hand, there might be new iBooks round the...

OS X.2 some new stuff not mentioned

10.1 doesn't have dock pinning as a GUI option, either. There's a freeware app (can't remember the name) to enable the "pin" menu in the dock. I believe another way to accomplish this is via Terminal.

    c, or cocoa learning resources

At least in OO system analysis & design an object = an instance of a class. Haven't done any OO programming (or much programming of any sort, for that matter), so I won't say anything more. :)

    Someone try jaguar?

No way, 10.2 won't probably be out for another four months ("late summer"). Anyway, we only got 10.1.4 a short while ago, and 10.1.5 has just been seeded to developers. What's your hurry? :D

A better email program? Any suggestions?

I gave it a try just for fun, but the interface is very bad. Cool-looking big buttons, but they have hardly any information value...

    Explorer 5.5?

I agree that Mozilla is great, but unfortunately on a 400 MHz iMac the interface is rather slow. I'm impatiently waiting for a more feature-rich Chimera, which will eliminate the need for Mozilla... :D Currently I'm using Chimera for normal surfing, and Omniweb 4.1b6 for stuff like downloading.
