    Don't know keychain password

    If you navigate to the Library folder inside your home directory (the folder with the house icon in the Finder) there's a subfolder called keychains. Simply delete any files inside that folder (you will lose all your saved passwords) and log out and back in and all should be well with the world.

    170,000 files seems about normal! I manage some servers with 500,000 files. OS X is a very complex OS, so don't waste your time trying to get rid of the files.

    You can either boot from the Jaguar disk, do an erase and install, or an archive and install (click the options button on the installation screen). Either way downgrading should be no problem.

    Your iMac is experiencing some severe hardware difficulty. I hope it is still under warranty. It sounds like it might need a new logic board.

    What you're experiecing is what happens when a RAM chip is either not fully seated into its socket or is incompatible/defective. Whenever something wonky like this happens, reseat the RAM. If it doesn't work, then replace it or get the right type of RAM.

    A G3 isn't really worth upgrading. By the time you're done, with all the software and everything, you'll be up near the price of a new iMac or iBook. Keep your eye on the refurbished deals on Apple's site or cruise EBay.
