First of all I have an iMac g5 (no iSight) 2.0 gHz. I have been having the "You need to restart your computer" error all night. Nothing would boot, just gives me the error (install CD). I finally booted into single user mode and did a fsck -fy and it fixed some illegal names/incorrect block counts. I typed reboot and now the computer is just sitting blank, power light glowing and the fans running. it has been 20 minutes. how long does it take to reboot or is it just frozen again?

Your iMac is experiencing some severe hardware difficulty. I hope it is still under warranty. It sounds like it might need a new logic board.
