WARNING - don't install 10.4.11 - includes new, buggy Safari

Thanks everyone for their help and advice. We are still working through the problem. Re: the helpful advice about sacking our IT people - actually on the scarce information I provided I would agree with you, but the situation i a fair bit more complex than that (I won't go into it here - but...

no internet - ethernet greyed out

Just to finish off this thread... Turns out the problem was caused by a thunderstorm, which did some damage inside the computer. I fixed it, installed surge protection, then the same thing happened again two weeks later. So now I unplug everything when it looks like thunder. Cheers

WARNING - don't install 10.4.11 - includes new, buggy Safari

Worldwalker: I couldn't find Safari 2.04 on the internet (maybe is out there somewhere). Our local mac shop also could not suggest where I could get a copy. However, I did find it on an old computer, so I copied that. The more I look into this, the more I think there are two problems -...

WARNING - don't install 10.4.11 - includes new, buggy Safari

I found an old version of safari 2.04 and replaced the new safari with it. This has fixed many, but not all of the problems - I think some of the compatability issues must have to do with the security upgrade itself. We can do some work on-line, but we can't send invoices and there are...

WARNING - don't install 10.4.11 - includes new, buggy Safari

I just downloaded the latest Security upgrade which took me up to 10.4.11 Bundled in the upgrade is a new version of Safari (3.04). There is no warning anywhere that I could see that this was part of the package. The result is that I am now frozen out of accessing my proprietary business...

Does leopard work with Eudora 6.4?

Thanks for that - maybe you haven't heard that Eudora for Mac is dead (Qualcomm have stopped selling it, and have stopped supporting it - see: http://www.eudora.com ). The Mozilla / Thunderbird people have put together an 'open source' version of Eudora, called Eudora 8, but it is pretty...

Does leopard work with Eudora 6.4?

G'day folks I am running Eudora 6.4 on five OSX Macs, and I don't want to upgrade to Leopard until I know for certain that it is going to be compatible (as you will know Eudora - which for 12 years has been the best email software in the world, bar none - is no longer being supported by...

no internet - ethernet greyed out

Thanks very much to everyone for all your help - which was most illuminating. I ran every test and check you recommended (plus some more) and nothing worked. I have finally found a Mac shop open, and I took the computer there for them to look at. They didn't believe me at first, but after...

    iMac Intel Core Duo

Good on you - glad it is working for you. The software I tried was called 'Virtual PC for Mac" (it came bundled with something else, and I thought I would give it a try). It was a total failure - I did manage to get "Minesweeper" for Windows working, but that was all (and it took a long...

no internet - ethernet greyed out

Thanks once again for all of that advice. I have done all the things you suggested - but still no internet. Getting rid of the NetworkInterfaces.plist as you suggested did make 'Built in ethernet' reappear in the Network Preferences window - but I am now getting error messages such as...

    iMac Intel Core Duo

If I've got a word of caution it is about trying to run Windows on the Mac machine - I have got the same model, and running windows is just not viable - it crashes all the time, and is very, very, very, very, very slow. It might be just a RAM issue (I have 1GB), or my own incompetence (very...

no internet - ethernet greyed out

Thanks for your response. The problem is that the ethernet port does not show up at all on the network status screen - and when I open Network Port Configurations 'Built in Ethernet' is greyed out (so I can't tick the box). My thinking is that this must mean there is a hardware problem of...

no internet - ethernet greyed out

G'day all Have been using a 24" Intel Core 2 Duo (OSX 10.4.8) for a few months now, accessing ADSL internet via an ethernet network. Last couple of days the internet has stopped working, and I have had to resort to dialup. I have isolated the problem to the computer (it is not the...
