Try to connect it to a windows based pc and check for errors. Then do the same again on mac, it's supposed to work. Do you get any error messages?

Both applications? MacFuse & NTFS 3-G? This happened to me too. But I disconnected the HD, then repaired it with Disk utility, everything went well. Now I can write and read.
