thanks virtual tracy, what i needed to know

i'm very new to macOS can anybody tell me what happens when you perform a Install and archive on an iMac system. especially the documents, email, photo's in Aperture etc. Are they saved? I had a system crash and performed a disk check, the disk seems to be OK thanks
