That update doesn't increase the speed of the drive, it allows the drive to work woth DVD-Rs aimed for 4x recording. Right now the superdrive is designed to work with 2x DVD-R media, but as stated, any Mac with a super drive built after a certain date, I think November 2002 are already updated.

I don't think you can use the PC2700 ram if the mobo supports PC2100, there's a thing on Apple's site unde rsupport that addresses this question and Apple says no. But why would you pay more for the faster ram if the mobo won't take advantage of the faster speed? You'd just be wasting money.
