    More Fuel for x86 Fire

Nice find Dixonbm. However, why such animosity between platforms? Geeze. I dont know about people. Everyone favors their platform more than the other, and bashes it for what ever reason. I take the open approach. I work with Windows (all), Aix,Linux, HP-Unix, IBM O/S 390 and now...

    disk space?

Ekramer, easiest way by far, is uninstalling apps that you dont need. clearing your internet cache is another way. also, if you've had system crashes your lost+found directory probably has crap that can be deleted. Darwin's automated skripts clean up O/S things pretty well. Are you hurting...

How to install 10.1 on new iBook (Nov 2002)

Not to be a jerk, but installing OSX was a no-brainer. The only thing I didnt do was remove all the stupid language support. When I loaded my Ibook the 2nd time, i removed the language support. I have the 500MHz model, so a full install took almost TWO hours. :( W/out the extra language...

    ._ file names?

dkTrickey Thanks. :) Darwin is the only thing i like about the OSX right now. The gui is 'ok'. I'm not one to get all excited about transparent menus and all bells & whistles. I am a unix guru, i help support HP UX, and AIX boxes at work. :) The reason i asked for book info is...

    ._ file names?

Yeah, the ibook i have was a gift, and I immediately reloaded it with osx from os9. I'm no computer dummy (10+ years exp as a techie), im just new to osx. I did use UFS, and i guess there is no way to directly convert from UFS -> HFS. I dont mind reformatting at all. Noob...

    ._ file names?

What are those pesky ._filenames? If i delete a file via the GUI or command line, that file still stays there. It's nothing big, i'm just curious. :(

    Upgrade from 10.1.5 to 10.2?

Pardon me guys, but i'm new to Macs. I was trying to update my ibook from 10.0 to 10.2.3 and i'm stuck at 10.1.5. Apple's website isn't very helpful. The gap from 10.1.5 to 10.2 is uncloseable. :( Anyone know which updates i should get? i've tried all >10.1.5 and no dice. :(...

    Switchers

Heh. i just got my ibook this week. :) So far I like it, but i'm not 'switching'. To claim one OS over another is silly. Each has it's pros/cons. What makes owning a mac awesome is that I can use my Unix/linux experience in this So-called OSX. I use IBM OS/390, "Winders", Unix and AIX...
