In FCP 5.0.3, can\'t find MPEG2 option, Compressor greyed out

*sigh* using FCP 5.0.3 . . . haven't needed the MPEG2 export option for a while, but now that I do, it isn't available. And Compressor is greyed out. Tried reinstalling DVDSP 4 but no MPEG2 option becomes available. I have the application Compressor but when I click on it nothing happens...

[FAQ]Can I install Tiger on my Mac from another Mac's DVD/CDs?

Under Apple Technical Info Library article no. 2615524, section 8b, paragraph 7, "Definition of Household" it says: "Household" is defined as the equivalent of at least 2.5 persons (or more) occupying the same habitational location for at least 9 months out of the year or more. 2.25 persons...

    Attention Mac Pirates...

To "rip off" means to steal. This definition works both ways. When is an overpriced, rushed-to-market piece of inferior software product a blatant ripoff for consumers, especially when they are forced to pay for "upgrades" (read: bug fixes) every six months? Sure, many programmers work for long...

    Attention Mac Pirates...

After 11 or so years of being a Mac guy, it's amazing how many horrible pieces of software have been churned out at ridiculous prices. Quark Xpress comes to mind . . . it's an inferior product (at least inferior to InDesign) but due to industry-wide acceptance (like it or not, for one reason or...

Speaking of guns and Brooklyn, I hear there is a steakhouse called Peter Luger there. Will you treat me?:D

    OS X--so SLOW part deux

Okay, I admit I didn't go out and purchase more RAM, like everyone told me to in my first post about this. My finances are hurting after paying for this heap of circuits. But as I sit here, typing on my OS 9 iBook, I observe my shiny new OS X flat-panel iMac, trying to display the contents of...

    DVD region codes x 5?

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but barring buying an all-region DVD player on eBay--I read somewhere that these things weren't really all region but just had their region set to zero--and that all-region players are illegal in the U.S. anyway--do the players at...

    OS X--incredibly slow

    Hmm . . . doesn't help my 17-inch flat panel iMac . . . :(

    OS X--incredibly slow

Any way to somehow modify the new machines to boot into OS 9? There has got to be a hack.

    DVD region codes x 5?

Well, Arden. Well! Just stay away from trash-talkin' women and shady men with Dells.

    DVD region codes x 5?

Snowball, thanks for the link, but for us suckers who have no choice but to boot into OS X, it doesn't help much =)

    DVD region codes x 5?

Well, it all comes down to whether you really even want to watch a DVD on a computer, when you can get an all-region player for around $200 and watch it in the comfort of your living room. I'll take that over watching a jaggy image on a small computer screen any day.

    DVD region codes x 5?

"As the author you can create a region free DVD." That's weird, because after I burned the disc, ejected it and then put it back in, I got the "What region is this disc?" message--on a so-called region-free disc. Selecting Region 1, I had to burn one of my "chances" just to play my own disc.

    DVD region codes x 5?

So if I play 100 region 1 DVDs in the player, then 4 region 6 DVDs, that means the drive will now be permanently locked on Region 6? Or do I still have three disparate regions to go? And then it is locked on the last region played? What if my little brother sneaked in and played all his...

Any way to speed up LAN file transfer with Airport?

Hmm . . . sorry, don't have a clue what any of those acronyms stand for--except FTP and TCP. Wouldn't I have to go through a server to ftp a file? How would I set it up (from the OS9 computer to the OSX computer) using, say, Anarchie? Via IP address? Why would it be any faster than a direct...

Any way to speed up LAN file transfer with Airport?

I have my G4 733 and my new iMac 1G (with installed Airport Extreme card) networked with the original Airport Base Station. Silly me, I'm trying to transfer a DVD file (4.2G) between the two--and I'm getting "Estimated time left: 25 hours" !!!!!! Is there ANYTHING I can do to speed this...

Any PC2100 RAM work in new iMacs?

Confusingly, Apple calls the RAM in my new iMac "DDR266" RAM, but I've found that other folk call it PC2100. No matter what it's called, will the PC2100 RAM to be found in large amounts on eBay fit my 1G iMac, even if it is not specified as being for a Mac?

    OS X--incredibly slow

Ummm . . . dumb question. How does one access the "memory" control panel in OS X? It doesn't seem to be in the System Prefs. I want to assign some VM. Okay, lots of VM.

    OS X--incredibly slow

Yes, it was in fact it was Mac Help which initially led me to believe that the iMac had frozen--the spinning cursor went on and on and on, so I kept force-quitting it. Then once I just left it, went somewhere else to do something and when I came back, lo and behold, there was Mac Help. As I...
