I went under my user/library/preferences. Did what you said, moved the preferences to the desk top, logged out and then logged back in. No luck, quicken/word still will not open.

I just logged in as a different user and they worked. The first thing I thought of before was a corrupt preference file and trashed some .plist but I guess it was the wrong ones. Any idea which ones I should look for? Thank a lot for the help, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the help. I tried what you said and it didn't work. Since I had the DVD in I re installed the whole system. When I tried to launch quicken a message came up saying i need rosetta to run this program, would you like to instal it? So I did. After I installed it I tied to launch quicken...

I have system 10.6.0 on a power mac. I use quicken 2007 and office 2004 and have not had any trouble until yesterday. I have not updated anything or downloaded anything. I started up the computer the next morning and none of these programs will launch. All other programs seems to be working...
