I'm bothered by the fact that Apple includes a utility on their install disks for getting past any password on the machine, even root. Sure, you can use Open Firmware Password, but what were they thinking?

Actually just starting up with the CD and using disk utility to erase it should do. Choose the option to overwrite the disk with random data and no one will be able to recover anything. Better leave it overnight though as it can take awhile.

Never mind, today I unplugged it and plugged it in. After a few times it came on, but now I'm not trusting any important data to it.

I have a similar problem, only my drive won't even show up on the system. I whirs and the light goes on, but doesn't read in Disk Utility.

I got my new iMac maybe 3 weeks ago, and I had the CD eject problem with a burned DVD. All I had to do was restart with CRT-OPT-O-P held down and type reset-all to reset the firmware settings. I wouldn't worry about heat, the iMac has more than sufficient fans as long as you don't block them...

All you have to do is reinstall/update safari. Don't ask me why. I keep a safari package around because mine does that sometimes.

I have a couple other suggestions, though I'm no security genius. You could do an archive and install, maybe that will clear up whatever the tech guy did. Also, there's a program called Open Firmware password that you can use so your computer can't boot up from the install cd without the password.

Why not just use omnigraffle without registering? I haven't used it much but I don't think it does anything beyond poping up a window now and then if you don't register.

Well, I'm sitting in eager anticipation with a credit card borrowed from my parents, refreshing the apple home page. All I have to say is the iMac better not have a pyramid base or a double arm - I'd have to give it back unused.

They should have moved everything over 1 so dashboard was F13. That button is way easier to press on the Apple keyboards.

Well, I didn't do any math, but I'd say the home market is a lot lower than the total market share because so many of them are in graphics studios etc. Theere are a lot of people out there designing things on their G5s.

Either Ethernet or Firewire should work. To boot into firewire disk mode, restart the mac and hold down Z as it starts up. There are also programs that will help you (I don't recall the names right now) and I assume they use a cable between the computers too.
