Ruby on Rails fiasco, need help re-installing? :(

Hi all, I'm using Leopard on my PowerBook G4. I have used Ruby before but I wanted to try out Ruby on Rails. Long story short, I accidentally deleted the gem and rails directories. I tried to reinstall ruby gems with MacPorts but the install failed. Then I followed a suggestion to remove...

    vi syntax coloring

hmm, I didn't have that file, but I did add it and that line, but that didn't seem to work either. I also have my TERM set to xterm-color, which I thought had something to do with it, but I guess maybe not.

    vi syntax coloring

Hi all, Does anyone know how to get syntax highlighting in vi? I've found a few descriptions of how to do it, but I can't seem to get it working. A couple weeks ago it randomly started showing colors, and then a few days ago it didn't do that anymore. What the heck did I do that would have...

    "Horizontal Lines" on new PowerBook

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else had this problem? There's posts about it all over on other forums, including Apples, where they have even locked threads, but I don't seem to see anything about it here.

    "Horizontal Lines" on new PowerBook

I'm seeing faint horizontal lines on my brand new PowerBook 15" (the one with the higher screen res). I've seen this mentioned on a few other forums now, and I'm wondering if anyone else here has seen this or knows what to do about it? As of now I don't think Apple is replacing them since it's...

    DELETED

I'm not sure if there is a compiler for 1.5...er, what I mean is, I can't figure it out myself, lol. Does anyone know about this? I can compile Java 5 stuff in Eclipse, but I'd REALLY like to figure out how to do something basic in Java 5 from the command line. Any help would be really appreciated.

    Dashboard widget manager gone

The "Manage Widgets" button is gone. I downloaded a third party widget manager and installed it, so that is there, but the Apple one isn't. When I download new widgets it doesn't ask if I want to install it etc. Edit: Okay I take that back, I misunderstood you. The "Manage Widgets" button IS...

    Dashboard widget manager gone

So I casually open up dashboard yesteday and my widget manager that came with 10.4.2 is gone  And I have no idea how to get it back, apparently it's part of dashboard, and not just another widget. I restarted, no luck, but I don't know what else to do to get it back. Anyone seen this...

    Programming in Java on Mac

I used to use NetBeans (pre 4.0) but since the last Java class I took used Eclipse, I've switched to that. Once you get the hang of using the feature, they can be really useful, and allow you to do less typing and refactoring is a breeze. Some people have said it can make you "stupid" since it...

    Why Skype sucks!

Skype is still technically in beta for OS X right? I've used it to little avail, I get a horrible connection to the only person I want to talk with sadly... (first post! :) )
