So whenever a fink or whatnot attempt to updat themselves via curl I get the proxy resolve error and it fails. My question is where does curl store...

    Don't advertise OSX, We lost

I think the real reason why Apple hasnt advertised much is due to the one of its strongest assets. Its extremely loyal user base. It knows that its users have been anticipating OS X for quite some time (dust off my calendar a bit, ah, here it is) sorry folks my calendar doesnt date to before...

What's your favorite OS X screensaver module?

I know this is pretty old school but Id like to see the AfterDark 'totally twisted' savers ported over. They were at times a little cheesy but damn I laughed my a$$ off! especially the one where the little kittens got run over by the dude on the lawn mower....hahaaha!!! btw, I used to have...

If 10.1 performance sucks for you...

you can only do a 'clean install' through and update CD onto a drive that currently has OS X installed on it. This might be necessary if you bogged your system down with a bunch of crap and you didnt want it to be included in the new updated system. Or you want a nice clean hard drive to fill up...

    what is going on?!?

    what is going on?!?

I dont believe the HD will fail. Its just inaccessible (i.e. whenever it is accessed the OS goes into some infinite spinning cursor loop), its a brand new Quantum, Although its possible. Ive owned Quantums before and they are pretty good about that. Plus, both Disk Utility and Drive 10 have...

If 10.1 performance sucks for you...

At this point in the game UFS sucks! I made the mistake of trying that when I installed 10.0.4 (lot of effort!) and 90% of the mac programs (native apps as well as carbon) didnt work or could not find any associated files... UFS is for desperate high-performance server types right now.

    Wolfenstein

GrandpaMurder, First, you have to recognize a laptop is not the ideal gaming machine :D They have all sorts of performance corners cut (less so with apple machines but still there) to cut heat buildup / generate longer battery lives, etc.. Second, an 8 MB rage card?? Theres your problems...

10.1 Burns CDs fine -- but what a buffer!

In OS 9.x it had a similar method. It would generate a read/write .img file deep in the system folder (in the preferences folder if I remember right). Yea, I realized this one day after burning a CD through the finder. I was shocked to accidentally find out my normally 250 MB system folder...

    what is going on?!?

I would suggest doing a PRAM reset just before you install 10.1 or anytime you have a really nasty crash. (i.e. the only method of restarting the computer is pulling the plug, or killing the power supply, rare.). It doesnt hurt, only help. In X I havent seen it affect any preferences (cause most...

    what is going on?!?

I feel really stupid now!!! I solved my own problem!! I hate that!!! This was getting so frustrating I thought I might take a few shots in the dark. Remembering back to my Legacy Mac OS troubleshooting days, reseting the PRAM was one of the first things you did before even thinking of a...
