Is Erasing a WD External Drive (Without Unlocking It With Its Firmware Password) Secure?

I have a password-protected Western Digital external drive I'd like to securely erase, and I'd like to avoid the long wait that a 3 or 7 pass overwrite takes using Apple's Disk Utility. Of course, all WD Drives have the option to secure them with a firmware password using their WD Security or...

Concerns About Upgrading From Mac Pro (5,1) to New MacBook Pro for Video Editing

Looks like the estimated release for the new 2021 MacBook Pro with the M1 processor is November. Perhaps I'll wait until then.

Concerns About Upgrading From Mac Pro (5,1) to New MacBook Pro for Video Editing

I'm upgrading from my beloved Mac Pro 5,1 (with Metal video card and 40GB RAM) I've had since 2010 to a new MacBook Pro (because Apple doesn't support installing anything beyond OS 10.14 Mojave on it). I can't afford a new Mac Pro right now—so that leaves me with the option of a new MacBook Pro...

Are "moved" files recoverable on an SSD drive?

I know the regular hard drives will overwrite data, I just wasn't sure about solid state drives. I had heard that they operate differently. For instance, I'd heard that you can't do secure deletion on SSDs like you can on regular hard drives.

Accidentally reported 1000s of text messages as junk

Also, it was not a single message I was deleting (which is what they are referring to in the reply I cited). It was all of the messages in my Messages app that I selected. I then got the "Delete and Report Junk" button which I clicked on instead of the "Delete" button.

Accidentally reported 1000s of text messages as junk

Thank you for your reply, Cheryl. I just found this thread about it on Apple's Communities forum. In it, a "Community Specialist" (whatever that is) named Allen A. replied with something that looks like it's from Apple which states: "If you get an iMessage from someone who's not saved in...

Are "moved" files recoverable on an SSD drive?

Thank you for your reply, Cheryl. I had thought maybe there was some trace of it left that was recoverable (similar to if I had deleted it).

Are "moved" files recoverable on an SSD drive?

I regularly move files from one SSD hard drive to another. By "move" I mean: holding down Command, then dragging the file to the new hard drive. For instance, moving 'File Z' from 'Hard Drive A' to 'Hard Drive B' results in there being no visible copy of 'File Z' on 'Hard Drive A' any longer...

Accidentally reported 1000s of text messages as junk

I intentionally deleted a year's worth of old text messages from my Messages app. (These were thousands of messages from dozens of my personal and professional contacts containing videos and photos.) However, after selecting all the messages prior to deleting them, I accidentally pressed...

WPA Security on an Old Airport Card?

I'm using an original Airport Card (not the Airport Extreme Card) with an Airport Express Base Station. Can I utilize WPA security with this older card or am I only able to utilize WEP? Do I need to install an Airport Extreme Card in order to utilize WPA security?
