I recently upgraded to 10.4.9 Intel and had the same thing happen: I booted up, and the fan went nuts. I shut down, restarted, and the fan started again, but not as fast, and after a minute shut down. What is this all about?

I've had my Intel/iMac for a week. The positives: A-plus physical design; very fast boot; native apps are pretty intuitive--I haven't cracked a manual yet; I was actually able to transfer a bunch of files from my old Windows XP machine onto this one, and they can be opened, modified, etc...
