Hi,
I've upgraded from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 on PowerMac G5 970 Dual
After reboot fans accelerated very loudly to (likely) maximum speed.
I've observed a couple of these messages in dmesg:
AppleK2Fan::start ERROR: couldn't find IOPlatformPlugin
Also the system usage seems to grow very much (above 50%) when trying to compile something while the systems becomes quite slow...
Any chance to go back to 10.4.8?

That fan noise happened to me when I did a FirmWare update. Someone'll have an answer ;).
(I thought you mean't "fans" as in "supporters") haha

Reinstall the 10.4.9 PPC Combo to see if that fixes it. The mac will boot twice with so have patience when it first boots up.

I recently upgraded to 10.4.9 Intel and had the same thing happen: I booted up, and the fan went nuts. I shut down, restarted, and the fan started again, but not as fast, and after a minute shut down. What is this all about?
