    Mac OS X 10.3 Panther!

Since OS X has been shipping, there isn't much history to go on for predicting whether 10.3 will be paid or free (and yes, I consider going to CompUSA and picking up a copy of 10.3 without exchanging money to be FREE). We've only had: 10.0 --> 10.1 Free 10.1 --> 10.2 Paid This...

IBM gives vision for future Macs

Just to clear a few things up, as I understand them... 1. This new "GPUL" PPC will have an SIMD unit that is fully compatible with Altivec. Apple has far too much invested in Altivec to simply walk away from it. Furthermore, the AIM alliance allows for IBM to use an altivec compatible...

Doom III first previewed in 2001?

That "really nerdy looking guy" happens to be John Carmack, the man who started the first person shooter revolution in gaming and who supports Macs better than almost any other multi-platform gaming company. Yes, Doom III will be released for Macs at the same time it is released for Windows...

A better email program? Any suggestions?

Mail works great for me. Simple, fast, and elegant, and it includes a spell checker. I can see how some people would want more features than Mail has to offer, but I've never found Mail to be "buggy" at all. I've never had any problem with it at all.

How to defrag our hard drives?

Does OS X really need to be defragged? If it did, then Apple would include a rudimentary defragging utility with the OS. HD seek times are so low nowadays that defragging doesn't result in a speed increase. Try it and see, I guarantee that you will not be able to perceive any speed difference.

is osx a true unix system

I'm not all that technically savvy, but I have a few things to add: 1. OS X's finder is Carbon, that's a fact. It supports services and mouse scrolling works in it. Many people think it would work better if it were Cocoa, but according to those who know OS X well, the problem isn't that...

    optimizing so slow

Does OS X even need to be defragged? HD seek times are so low nowadays that defragging usually doesn't even result in a speed gain. And if it was really necessary, don't you think Apple would have included a rudimentary defragging utility in OS X? Even Unix systems don't come with...

    Apple + Tab = Cool

In OS X, I think it works better than in Windows. If you use Apple-Tab to switch to another app, then you can hit Apple-Shift to go back to the original App. But I guess it comes down to personal preference.
