I have started kinda playing with that; I have been experimenting with MySQL etc., but I have just been searching for an out-of-the-box solution, that's all!

I support about 5-60 macs in an enterprise environment. I recently compileed an inventory of all of our macs by exporting the system profiler data from each mac. Is it possible to build a searchable database from this data? I have tried exporting the xml to Excell and Access with limited results.

I would suggest resetting your PMU, if that is applicable; I believe they were still called PMU on the powerbook G4's, however, it is possible that it would be referred to as your SMS.

I would say that if resettting pram does not work, your drive is indeed going bad. Seee if your mac came with a cd tha thas apple hardware test on it, and see if you can boot to it, and scan your mac for hardware errors. Also, see if you an read the same discks that you are having problemes...

Here's a hint for you that I didnt pick up on untill someone told me. Insert your OSX DVD, and when it mounts, and the little window pops up, scroll down, and find the additoinal software installer. When you run this, it will give you optiosn to install additional fonts, print drivers, etc...
