    Is there a screw that completes a circuit or safety precaution inside a ibook? Because there is a loose one rolling around inside the case. Is it possible that I need a set of ibook restore disks? not just an OSX install set?

    I've done it holding down the option key and just letting it run naturally and since its a fresh HD, it automatically finds the CD is a boot source. The book is almost 1.5-2 years old.

    CD's, black with a grey X on them, my understanding is its 10.4 and I'm pretty sure the CD is good because it is borrowed from someone else who's used it with no problems. And I'm sure the CD drive is good.

    Model is A1133. I can't boot from the CD because the option has been disabled and is passworded. And how would I get to the HD? On my previous laptop, the HD can be accessed by popping up the keyboard. On the ibook, the keyboard only guards the ram slot.

    It is passworded and the 'setup drive' function has been disabled. And are you sure I need an IDE drive? the computer itself says it has an SATA.

    I have a locked up hard drive on my G4 ibook. Is it possible just to replace the HD and install tiger onto it from scratch? Was looking on ebay, saw some pretty cheap drives.

    I've tried that. It goes to a bluish screen with a circular arror on the left, a picture of a hard drive the says Macintoxh HD in the center and a regular arrow on the right.
