Hi there, not very computer--let alone Mac--literate so please bear with me.
I have a G4 ibook, used for word processing and music but my former room mate, poisoning the well so to speak, locked it up before he split. I have no idea what to do with it.

There is now an Administrator account and a guest account. I don't have the admin login and the guest account has nothing activated, no DVD drive and it will not allow system settings to be changed without an admin logon. I can't even use it to surf the web because he changed the 'proxy' to something that doesn't exist and I can't undo it.

I have lost the material that came with it in my move to my apartment and have bought a copy of OSX from Fry's, but have no clue on what to do since the ability to boot up on a CD has been disabled.

Any help--in laemans terms prefferably--would be greatly appreciated.

Well booting from the OS X installer is the way to fix the password problem and then all of your other problems are solved.

You could look at having the drive replaced with a DVD burner. That would give you some added useful life out of the computer because future OS X installers will most certainly be on DVD. Or purchase an external DVD drive that operates on FireWire.

When I put in the disk, it asks me for a system restart. I click okay and It still asks me for the admin login info.

I've tried that. It goes to a bluish screen with a circular arror on the left, a picture of a hard drive the says Macintoxh HD in the center and a regular arrow on the right.
