I got bind working on 1 domain, now that I will add another to the same box I'm completely lost.

Do you run a apple mail server? Have you configured BIND, MX records and set up working mail accounts, then I got some questions for you! Please respond to this post!

can send you some example files. basically you just got to switch example.com into mydomain.com

at first I used the example file and edited it after my needs, then I cut n pasted yours. but it gave me errors until I modified the mx record as I've it now.

unless I put it like this I get a error in the logfile. ; ; Mail servers ; dns.davey.com. IN MX 10 dns.davey.com.

the nslookup command return what you said it should, but i get a error in the mail log: Resolver: NO_DATA GetMXRecord for dns.davey.com failed. __ And "mail server is not using host relay list" what does that mean?

aha! Thanks alot! I was also wondering if you run more then one domain on the same box, like davey.com and mikey.com should the dns records for them be in the same file, or should they use separate?

a few days ago I set up my own DNS server, it works fine and all, but now i tried to get the mail working aswell, I created a user with the mail account: davey@davey.com and I can send mail from that account, but I can't recieve any. When I check the mail log files it says "SMTP Server...

yes the difference is more or less that macosx server comes with all the server stuff preinstalled, some extra features and a GUI. But if you're skilled enough and got the time u can do everything on OSX as you can do on OSX server...

aha... well in osx server u can turn it on and off from the gui, you probably need some extras for that...

you need BIND to set up a dns server. it's quite easy if you got a OSX server, just edit the contents in var/named and named.conf in etc. I'm sure you can run BIND on regular OSX aswell, but it's not installed by default so you have to get the packages.

a firewire drive can only mount to one computer at the time.

new firewire drives give you a transfer of around 36MB/sec while transfers over TCP/IP 100mbp network give you around 10 MB/sec so hook both of them up to a hub and enable fileshare, that's fast enough. Only way you can have access to both comps.
