    Installing OpenSSH

Has anyone had luck in installing OpenSSH? I tried following the steps at stepwise.com to do so, and I don't seem to have gnutar, and after I run make , it gives me an error saying a file is not found. Am I totally missing something? I am using 4k75...I downloaded the Dev Tools from the ADC...no...

    MacOS X 4k75

I know it's not the FC like 78 supposedly is....but I am liking this build. It seems very stable to me. I am running it on my TiBook 500 with airport. Logging into console and still having airport work is just an awesome feeling.

    Airport / 4k56

thank you very much. I will try that as soon as I get home. I am receiving 4k73 today and wondering if it's a lot more stable than 4k56. Do you have 73 installed? I am installing in my new 500Mhz TiBook. Man, OS X on a G4 laptop just kicks ass...especially when I get airport working. Damn I am...

    Airport / 4k56

Can anyone tell me if they've gotten airport working without a hack in 4k56 or anything higher? I see the signal in the dock extra airport thing, and it seems like it's recognizing my airport and everything. Do I just need to turn off encryption on the Mac OS 9 end when I configure my airport...

No support for PPPoE DSL connections

You can't get the new builds legally. You'll have to wait until the final release of OS X, I just wrote that so you wouldn't get mad at Apple or anything. It will be included in the final release.

No support for PPPoE DSL connections

It is included, I am running a recent build and the DHCP Client ID is there as well. So chill out.

    @home cable modem w/ osx

Look at your papers that came with your @home kit...they look like receipts...big yellow things. All your info is on there, IP address, gateway (router), DNS, and netmask. Manually enter everything.

@home mail and ms explorer mouse

What you need to do is call @home. That should always be done the first site of problems. My mail server for @home in Phoenix is mail.mesa1.az.home.com...so your should be similar. It works fine for me in the public beta. How are you connecting? Did you manuallt put all your network info in or...

    Has anyone installed XFree86?

Yes I've used X before. I use it at work with the enlightenment manager...I know twm is horrid. That's the thing that I don't like is not being able to run full screen. I do like OS X's look and stuff, but I think it would be pretty neat seeing X on here. Thanks.

    Has anyone installed XFree86?

My point was Xfre86 itself, not using VNC, or X Tools...So that's why I replied. Yes Ive used VNC, I don't like it. I have used X Tools and wasn't impressed. This was a while ago though. There's no need to reply so nasty. If I piss you off ignore me.

    Has anyone installed XFree86?

I wouldn't want to emulate it with VNC....that's slow. I want it installed on my system but would you launch it over the OS X GUI or is there a way to replace it?

    Has anyone installed XFree86?

I would love to do this but I'd like to see someone's trial in print. If anyone has done this, can they write out what they had to do or how easy it was? This could solve a lot of bitching from people that love to criticise a beta version of an operating system....

    Good ol' Apple

evo, Apple can do whatever they want. They're not gonna put versiontracker and macnn into one website, that's a waste of time, plus those websites give Apple news that Apple probably wouldn't even want out anyway. It's a beta. They are working on it. They don't have to support updates, or...

    Good ol' Apple

You don't know how glad I felt when I got the e-Mail from apple to take a survey for OS X...atleast they're keeping up with their word. Just make sure if you get an e-Mail like that that when it says if you have any extra comments, put in you want the terminal app in the final version.

So I re-installed OS X on a seperate partition, and now I can't use tar. Even though it's there. It gives me the message : tar: Failed open to read on /dev/nrst0 <No such file or directory> Can anyone tell me what this means?

    Launching GUI?

Can you launch the Mac OS X GUI right from the console? Instead of having to logout, then login again as a user...Sometimes I can't even logout of console, so that's why i was wondering...like in linux when you type x and it'll launch X Windows.
