    Kernal Panic Error

    Figured it out. My problem was a video PCI card. I had one in the old machine that worked OK (IXMicro, I think) and the new machine has one that doesnt. The one that doesn't work is a DIamond Javelin 3000. Works fine with that removed. Dennis

    I get the same problem on a 6 week old G4 DP. The funny thing is, that this result is from a drive moved from an identical G4 DP that installed like a beeze. That machine burned (literally) and I moved the drive and got the kernel trap error. Dennis

    Trashing the TCP pref didn't work (The TCP pref file was not restored). Nor did replacing it with a copy from a working sys folder. The TIL says it is a problem mostly with BootP servers, Mine is a DHCP. I have tried: No OXC networking, BootB and DHCP, all manual setting. In classic...

    There is a TIL article that has an apparent solution: http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/N106022 The take home seems to be *do not automatically detect Nameservers* it can corrupt the pref file.

    Setup: G4 DP, ethernet netork, campus DHCP server, etc. Web off, Filesharing off. (have tried on too). DHCP on in Network. DNS Servers specified manually (but automatic setting seems the same). Starting up OSX + classic, classic apps (Eudora, EIMS mailserver) can find the DNS Servers...
