Establish a WDS with a Linksys + Airport Express

In answer to your question—no, I gave up on this. However, perhaps the following might be of interest to you. http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040916072616868 Good luck!

Leopard unable to force quit application

Same problem here too. An application starts to freeze with a spinning ball and then refuses to quit with "force quit." When I force a reboot in single user mode and run fsck I always get an "Invalid file and folder count" when fsck checks the volume information. The problem is fixed but recurs...

Establish a WDS with a Linksys + Airport Express

I am trying to set up a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) using a Linksys WRT150N as my "Main" device and two Airport Expresses as "remote" or "relay" devices (one in my bedroom and one in the living room). Problem is it does not seem possible to do this using Airport Utility (which does not...

How to back up a Boot Camp partition?

My HD failed shortly after I had installed Leopard plus WinXP using Boot Camp. Luckily I had a back up of my Leopard (Mac) partition but not the Boot Camp (WinXP) FAT32 partition. That meant a laborious re-install. Thoroughly chastened, I am now searching for a way to back up my (new) WinXP...

How to back up a Boot Camp partition?

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

Yes, I think you are right. This is obviously a very old font, and is probably a bitmap (incorrectly identified as a Type 1 postscript by FontExplorerX, as above). I guess I'll just have to use it with SimpleText in the future (unless I find a program that can generate a new font with it)...

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

Thanks to all your replies. I don't think the font is corrupt because I can "see" the text on my iMac monitor, though not print it. Let me expand on this somewhat for a bit more clarity. The problem I have is as follows. I have this old font, which I always assumed was a bitmap, that I...

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

Actually, it is missing the PRINTER font (not the screen font as I mentioned before). Is there any way of generating a printer font from a screen font on the Mac (or even in Windows)?

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

I have been able to use this font (DCRTimes) on my iMac by putting it into the "Classic" System Folder. Microsoft Word X sees it from there and it operates normally in Classic mode (OS X—Panther), or with Word Perfect when booted directly into OS 9.2.2. I am beginning to think there is...

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

Oh! It's a font called "DCRTimes" that was crafted by some University Lab to handle the diacritical marks on Roman transliteration of Indian languages. Very esoteric—not one of your regular font families

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

Many thanks. I downloaded FontExplorer as you suggested and I have most of the fonts up and running. One font suitcase failed due to lack of the necessary screen font, and I wondered whether there were any software that could generate a screen font from a bitmap?

    Font Book DilemmaEnlighten me please

I have a collection of fonts dating back some years that I keep in my Font Folder in my User's Library Folder. Most of these are in Suitcases and I presume are Bitmap fonts that I had used in Mac OS 9 and prior OS's. I am currently running OS 10.4.10 on an Intel MacBook (as the "Administrator")...

    Strange behavior of OS 10.2.6

Thanks DeltaMac. Well, it's a USB 1.1 connection. My iMac doesn't have Firewire so I am using the drive until I get myself a new Mac. I will try your suggestion before my next reboot and see what happens. I've already tried cleaning out my caches with Cocktail without result.

    Strange behavior of OS 10.2.6

A number of things are happening as follows: 1) When I boot up in single user mode I get a long string of dialog telling me that "Specific family matching failed". Can someone explain to me what this means? It may be related to a new Maxtor external HD that I have just installed but I am not...

Sorry, I meant FOLDERS, not files.

    Duplicate volume problem

Thanks to all for your good info. I at last discovered that the problem was the existence of two FILES with the same name as my Maxtor drive. I did a "Go to folder..." from the Finder's Go menu and looked at /Volumes, which clearly revealed the folders. I then logged myself in as root and...

    Duplicate volume problem

O.K. Darkshadow I have gotten rid of the Netscape and the Mac OS X "drives" but even though I have unmounted my Maxtor200 drive and even unplugged my USB cable from it, my Terminal still shows the following: [Julian-Woodss-Computer:/Volumes] jfwoods# ls -a . BackUp Maxtor200...

    Duplicate volume problem

Thanks DeltaMac and Darkshadow for that. In answer to the first question?no, I have not been having any problems with my system (other than it being rather slow due to my limited MHz). However, what prompted me to look into Terminal was that when I booted into single user mode I was getting a...

    Duplicate volume problem

I am running OS 10.2.6 on a 350 MHz slot-loading iMac with a number of partitions and a new Maxtor 200 GB external drive. I have noticed recently that when I do a listing of my volumes in Terminal, the Maxtor drive is duplicated. I have tried to exorcise one of them without success, and I don't...

    OS X Memory Problem

Thanks all. Yes, I think my problem is lack of drive space, though nothing to do with swap files since i do the swaps on a separate partition and that does have sufficient space available. I have now taken around 400 MG of "stuff" off the partition where I keep my system and I already note...
