Since i updated to 10.1.4, the clock has been losing 5 hours every time I startup. Also, I leave that Preferences panel locked and it is unlocked when i open it again.
Any suggestions?

As far as I'm concerned 10.1.4 is a bit buggy, so it's probably one of those unexplainable update errors.

Or the battery?

You never know with these new OS X updates. When I booted from my norton Utilities CD (9.2) it did the same thing to the clock, and thereby was convinced that all my file mod and creation dates were wrong.

If you're permanently connected, just setup network time server and it will adjust the clock for you.

Does the computer lose time when it is on? Or just when it's off? If it's just when it's off, I'd agree with Kris and check the battery.

I've been having the same problem. But I don't think its the battery, because when I start up in 9 the time is right. Its only in X that I loose time.

I had the same problem too on a machine even with a fresh install of OSX and immediately doing all the updates. OS9 kept the time perfectly fine though. I ended up reformating and reinstalling again and it's worked like a charm since then.
