I had os x.1 on my G3 350 Mac, did all the updates through apples website up to 10.1.5, and now my mac refuses to install Jaguar. Instead of the grey wheels/cogs, my screen remains blank with some small dots across the top of the screen. I've tried rebooting through the disc, through the start up disc and even via an external cd drive. Anybody else suffered out there? It has worked perferctly on my imac

same here... I have a beige G3 and tried a clean install of 10.2 but all I got was a blank screen after the usual grey startup screen. Then I got my old 10.1 disks and installed them - flawless- in the hope to make an upgrade to jaguar... but no luck; my girl won't even do that. I tried loving and hugging but she wouldn't do it. Anybody some tips?

yep. seems that the older machines have a bit of a rough go when trying to get 10.2 to install.

here is what i did....

UNPLUG NETWORK, FIREWIRE & USB. i couldn't tell you WHY, but in the 12 times i have tried to
install Jag on my beige g3 this seems to be one of the gotchas that prevented me from completing
the install.

CHOOSE CLEAN INSTALL. it MAY work as an upgrade install, but starting from scratch never hurts.

CHOOSE ONLY THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM BASE INSTALL. leave out the BSD 4.4, applications and
the language options. my system would go into a sleep-like state if i tried to install more than the
base system. (this little tidbit courtesy of a 40 minute call to APPLE).

AFTER REBOOT & USER SET-UP, apply the packages that were left out of the initial install.
you SHOULD be able to apply the 10.2.4 update combo after finishing up with the install discs.

hope this helps you with your install.
