what does that have to do with 10.2 and greek ?
Well I joined helmug.org's forums (HELlas (greek) Mac User Group) and I found out that some people know people inside cupertino and the rumor is that apple is getting off their derriere with teh greek issue and is going to make greek (at least the fonts and the keyboard layouts) available with the OS X international CD (the regular CD that we got).

In greece, rainbow (greek mac rep), has localized 10.1.3 and it is in beta, but it cannotbe given to a user who (1) lives abroad and (2) hasnt bought a mac from them (this sucks-this has always been their policy, they require you to buy an ADDITIONAL copy of the OS! ).

Anyway rumors say that 10.2 will drop this summer and will be greek localized as well :D

yay!

Not exactly related to Greek in 10.2, but here are some new screen shots/movies of the old 6B11 build. Yeah, it's old, but it gives some more insight on just what's being added in there that we haven't seen from other leaked screen shots.

8 pictures and 2 movies currently at this mirror: http://www.stanford.edu/~zpincus/10.2/

OK, now those are some things I haven't seen! I like the new zoom effect. :)

It seemed to me like that was the 6B23 build (see the first shot).

Ah, ok. I didn't really pay attention to that, I was just told it was 6b11 :D

Yeah, I like the zoom thing. But it will only be useful to me the first time I open a folder because I keep my folders in one window with a toolbar. It'll still be cool though.

What the old search box for? Heehee, Shelock integrated into Finder? It would be cool!

I keep seeing that wall paper of the earth with all the city lights.(From the screenshots) I love that. Where can I download a copy of just the wallpaper? Thanks

Any word on the restoration of the Thai language to the OS? It's been missing since 10.1 upgrade.

- Is picture 3.jpg a bug? Because it doesn't look that beautiful...

- Does anybody know something about the performance of 10.2? Is it going to be A LOT faster than the past os x's?

- Hmmm.. I still don't see "Cut"...

- I think that the zoom effect is going to slow down the folders to open. I hope that there'll be a button called: "Disable that annoying zoom effect."

- Did you notice that the "+" only shows up when he closes the application folder in the renegade1.mov, and not the "-" and the "x"? But they do show up when he closes the renegade harddrive... Weird.

I think that's just a glitch when taking a pic.

I sure hope so.

Cut will NEVER be in OS X. Why? Think about it. If you cut a file, and then decide you don't want to paste it anywhere and then you cut a new file, where does the old file go? Even just putting it back in the original place would be a little dangerous. This would be a user interface nightmare, and would be stupid of Apple to put in.

Meh.

I hope sherlock works a heck of a lot better than it does now. Love the idea of putting it in the interface though. How about labels? Does it have labels yet?

I don't know if it's the same pic, but: go to VesionTracker and download a Screen saver called Technichron. It is awesome; it shows a map of the world with a shadow over it where it is night, with all the nighttime cities lit up. it does this by blending two matching pictures, both of which are in /.../Technichron.saver/contents/resources. It is a great pic, especially if you have a TiBook or Cinema Display.

Cut = Move. Copy a file while holding down "Cmd" key will occur a move event. But I hope Apple will add a keyboard short cut for it like "Cmd" + "C". Finder doesn't need to really cut that file but just hold the command until you press like say select a file by "Cmd" + "X" (Cut a file), and the file will stay in the same location until you press "Cmd" + "V" (Paste a file). Windows' Explorer also does the same thing and I so far don't see any problem and found it quite ease-to-use.

Are you saying that holding down command while copying the file (like from the context menu) should cut it or DOES cut it? I tried it but it doesn't move the file, only copies it.

If copying a file or folder across a partition or drive, and you hold down the Command key, it should copy it and then delete the folder on the drive you are moving from.

This is basically what it does, and I don't recommend anyone using it. If there are any permissions errors or locked files, you could get two incomplete folders on separate drives.

And I still don't like the idea of a cut command. Still too dangerous.

Cut is one of the biggest features I miss from Windows. I used that all the time. It just seems natural to me. You can cut text, pictures, etc from documents, why can't you cut folders and documents?

OS X will first copy the entire folder to the destination, and remove the orignal only if there is no error occured. Unlike Windows system which will copy and remove files one by one and stop if there is any error occurs (which produced 2 incompleted folders). I think OS X manage this is much better than Windows and it would be great if there is a cut/move context menu/keyboard short cut.

I always have to backup my files from 1 HD to another HD. So it is a good idea to have a Cut/Remove shortcut!

I agree with ddma. The Cut functionality on Windows is actually quite nice. The icon dims and the cut is only implemented when the user pastes. The fuctionality in OSX could be in two stages:

1. The Copy. If this errors then stage 2 is not done (plus error message raised to user)
2. The delete of the original. If this errors then it is brought to the user's attention and two copies of the file exists). This would only cause issues on large copies which might go over the disk space available to the user.

If the user cancels the Cut then the original icon is un-dimmed (if there is such a word).

Saying all that though - I haven't really missed the cut functionality. I tend to use the move functionality. However, as SimX recommends, I would never do this on critical files just in case. I tend to use Cut/Move for things like MP3s which I can easily recreate.
