10.2 wallpaper

ok, i'll concede that apple is going along with the term 'drivers' (probably for the sake of simplicity in helping people 'switch':D ). Like i said, i can live with that.

and while i wouldn't "gag myself with a steak knife", i often want to gag someone else when i hear the term 'wallpaper' :p

elitest? maybe. long time mac user who pretty much dispises all things pc, especially all things windows - fur shure :D

i've always assumed that the term wallpaper was one of those things where m$ changed the term in order to help them say that their GUI wasn't the same as apple's GUI. as such, the word has some really bad emotions attached to it for us old timers.

many kids who grew up in a pc world and don't really realize the history of the competition between apple and m$, probably don't care one way or the other. obviously boi thinks this is another of my silly rants. but i think it is important for mac users to use mac terminology and not windows terminology. otherwise apple will eventually lose it's copyright on such terms. (study business law to understand how that works ;) )

Hrmmm... this is interesting..... Under Windows 95, I'm looking at this.... and it says "Display Properties." There's a tab that says "Background".... below that, you have a selection of a "Pattern" (which is simply that, a patter for your desktop color to take), and then, to the right of that, there is "Wallpaper" to choose from (images). So "Background" is technically what MS calls the area behind the icons, but you can fill it up with a "pattern," or put "Wallpaper" over the pattern. The use/misuse of language in computer terminology is interesting, eh?
