We just updated our iBook to the most recent OSX (10.3.8) and did the other Security update dealio. Ever since, webcore (i think) seems completely jacked & crashes any app trying to use it.
1.) We've seen a crash as soon as Safari tries to open any page, be it something on the internet or opened off local drive
2.) We've seen Mail.app crash as soon as we try checking messages
3.) We've seen Software Update crash while checking for updates
In all cases, the report it's wanting to submit to Apple starts with this stuff: "Exception EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE(0x0002) at 0x00000000"
and then it goes on to detail the threads, the first of which always mentions webcore.
Any ideas of what to do? We've already rebuilt Permissions but that didn't solve the problem. Have also tried deleting safari prefs to no avail.
We've confirmed that it's not simply a network thing because Mozilla can still open web pages & use the internet (and AFP still works to connect to our G5).
