Hi everyone! I recently posted in the tiger installation FAQ's @ http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51819&page=2

I'm having trouble completing the installation, maybe somebody could help me on this one... The installer seems to be installing but the blue progress bar isnt going forward, just staying in one spot (but still animated). This happens every time I try to install and it gets to Installing Base System Part 1, Running Installer Script. Gets about a tenth of the way then just stays in one spot (going on 2 + hours now). Any suggestions welcome! Thanks!

Sometimes, you have to nuke and pave....back up your data and zero the drive (choose the erase option to write zeros to the hard disk). If you have a bad sector, it can cause the install to hang up. Even though the check of the file system will stop and error out if you have, for example, an overlapped extent allocation--visit http://www.themachelpdesk.com to learn how to fix those--it won't if you hit a bad sector, and may hang up the install. In that case, writing zeros to the drive will force the disk to map out the bad sector.

If you want to verify that there's bad sectors, you can use my utility, Mac HelpMate -- http://www.macworkshops.com/machelpmate to check the S.M.A.R.T status of the disk. Check for "pending reallocated sectors" or "reallocated event count" if these numbers are high (over 100, let's say) you disk might have an issue.

Good luck.

You never mentioned your system specs. Depending on your system, you might need a firmware upgrade (some of them require you to boot into OS 9 if your Mac supports it).

See here for firmware for your Mac:

Yup...sounds like you need a firmware upgrade, and you're going to have to do it through OS 9. Check the link I posted above to download it and install it. Once the firmware is applied, you should be able to install OS X properly.
