17099 error

I am using Entourage 2004 and I receive a 17099 error when sending to certain e-mail addresses. I am using gmail as my service client, have been for over 18 months, and not until two days ago did I see this error pop up. It is a spurrious error that is inconsistent in the issuance. I am receivng the error on addresses which I have previously sent mail to, in this case just earlier today. I am unable to send mail to the address with the @wyoming.net stem, and the att.net stems. I have read through a variety of threads concerning the error and there are discussions of DBs being used. I am not using one. Why does this error develop, how can I eliminate the error, and why is it temperamental and unpredictable? HELP.
 
I just read over the thread you pointed me too, I had read that one. Tks. I checked and I am using 587 for the override default SMTP port. The original configuration told me to do that, so I've been running that way from the beginning. Prob still exists.
