In have recently purchased a new 20" widescreen monitor from Apple to use with my G4 400Mhz tower based machine.
My Mac has the original ATI rage fury pro 128 dvi/vga graphics card installed.

The problem is that when i connect my new monitor you get a picture on screen for a coulple of seconds then it bombs out?

the mac works fine on my original screen... any ideas? do I need to purchase a new graphics card or do the drivers need upgrading?

I am fairly new to macs to I presume you can upgrade drivers the same as you can on a pc.

Any advice would be great as I have this beautifull monitor but cannot use it !! Ahhhhh!!!

Thank you

What OS are you running?
That Monitor needs OS 9.2.2 or later to run and the monitor should have came with a driver disc to install.

drivers for graphics cards are included in OS updates. can you test the monitor on a differnet computer (a pc with dvi should work..)

you said something about a driver disk? we didnt get one.

is there somewhere where i can download these drivers from?

Um. I don't think they do come with a driver disk buddy. with the latest version of OSX (10.3.x should be fine) you should just be able to plug it in and turn it on. my g4 doesn't have DVI (it has ADC instead) so i can't test my 20" on it.. sorry.

mmm strange, guess i need to try and get a better graphics card for testing.

Can anyone reccomend a decent graphics card that will work ok in a G4.

maximun price of $180.00 - £100.00 (if I need to spend more please advise, the company will pay for it !!!!)

any advice on this would be great.

just so you know, the stock video card in your g4 was not vga and dvi, it was vga and adc. adc looks like dvi, but it is different, and you have to have a adc to dvi adaptor to connect a dvi monitor to that card.
