Staples is selling this hd for $29.94 tomorrow morning (after rebates). How do I find out if it will work in my flat panel iMac G4?

It will work in your machine.

Next time, post the specs so we don't have to go looking.

Specs? What specs? I'll gladly post them, but I'm not sure what you are asking for.

Maybe what would be good, is if you could tell me how to find out for myself if the drive would work without having to bother people on a forum. I tried looking things up, but was getting nowhere. Finally one search led me to this site, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Happy Thanksgiving!

just post a link to the site you found it. that way we can see it directly, without having to go googling for it.

Thanks for the help. Now my next question is, is it cheap and easy to turn the old internal drive in the iMac into an external drive for my PowerBook G4 12 inch?

The iMac G4 flat panel has in it:
Capacity: 74.53 GB
Model: Maxtor 4D080H4
Revision: DAK019K0
Serial Number: D41VS9KE
Removable Media: No
Detachable Drive: No
BSD Name: disk0
Protocol: ATA
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal
OS9 Drivers: Yes

The PowerBook is an 867 MHz PowerPC G4 with 640 MB DDR SDRAM.

I run Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 on each. The PB has USB and Firewire ports on the side. It currently only holds 37.26 GB, so the extra 74.53 GB would be nice.

You will find that your old hard drive will work fine. just purchase an external FireWire case without a drive, and install your old drive in that. Your PowerBook does not have USB 2.0, so FireWire would be a much better choice. You can even boot from FireWire if you want to. USB does not allow that choice on the Mac, and especially not with the much slower USB 1.1

It will be simple to put the hard drive in a case, compared to the job of replacing the hard drive in your iMac flat panel. Don't forget the heat sink compound when you reassemble that iMac!
