3 questions about firefox

1. How do I switch between the tabs using the keyboard?
2. Can I access certain bookmark entries via keycombos like in safari?
3. Could it be that the mouse-scrolling is significantly slower than in safari?

Am trying to swtich to firefox, but somehow I still don't feel so comfy with it..
Thanks!

Ctrl-Tab on Windows for tab switching

I'm not sure what you mean by selecting bookmarks via key combos (didn't realise this was possible in Safari).

I think Safari is marginally faster than Firefox on most things. Firefox definitely has a few more bugs, but it's an excellent browser.

You need to get some extensions, themes and search engines before you really feel comfy with Firefox.

Start by clicking on the built in Google search bar and selecting "Add Engines" from the drop down menu.

After you've added a few of these, get StumbleUpon and a few other extensions from the Firefox extensions page (available via a Firefox menu - it's "Tools" on Windows).

Thanks Kap!
I wonder if I can use some cursor steered tab switching. I love those tabs and after few mins, I have a bunch of tabs in one window. Thinking of switchting through all of them to get to the tab on the left sounds very bad to me.
In Safari I was able to assign 10 quick bookmarks to the keys: apple+1, apple+2...
I loved this feature, but didn't know how addicted I got to it. So, I guess this is not possible with Firefox, right?
Let's see what those extensions do. Hope they are for free..

Zammy, I too found pages scroll poorly in Firefox. Sort of like how it is in Safari if you turn on "smooth scrolling" in the Appearance preference pane. (Why ever do they call it that?) In any case I still find Safari out performs Firefox, but we've already got several threads going on that one...

Firefox has an extension for scrolling and it works great. It's called SmoothWheel.

agree with bobw. You can either speed up or slow down Firefox's scrolling speed. I have been using the browser for a week and in general I have found it to be FASTER than Safari. Just my particular case, though.

any solutions or extensions for switching between the tabs beside ctrl+tab as Kap proposed? I also discovered much faster loadings than safari. That's why I am giving Firefox a chance. ;)

I am missing many features in Firefox. Also have no apple+cursor-down function to jump to the bottom of the page.. If a fast load is all you look for I could recommend Firefox to you, Mo. But without all these neat features from safari I feel slowed down..

I remember there was an extension for a different key combination for tab switching (don't remember what it was called or whether it works for the latest version of Firefox).

I use the End button to jump to the bottom the page.

I found Firefox to be much better than IE on the Windows side, but I still gotta give it to Safari (with cache deactivated) for OSX. And with the improvements coming with Safari 2.0, even more so.

arkayn: that's because you _do_ have an 'end' button, i guess... on powerbooks (and probably other apple keyboards, too) there's no direct 'end' button. only through 'function rightarrow' you do get 'end'. now 'apple-downarrow' has long been known to work as an 'end' button, too, so many people are accustomed to use it that way... Sadly, I guess, it's not system-wide.

Yeah, not having a single "Home", "Page Up", "Page Down" and "End" key really is a big oversight (or at least put the Function key where the Enter key is on the Powerbook, so the key combination can be used with one hand!) - it just makes me miss not having a right mouse button and scroll wheel even more. :( :(

Well, I _do_ need the enter key there, so I rather not have put them a function key there. ;)

Kap, lol! I actually need those fillers for my forefinger and ring finger to balance my middle finger. :)
But great, fn + cursor right works great. So, how many extensions are there? And where can I find them? Guess I need to customize my Firefox a lil bit more to make it more competitive to safari.

Go to the Tools menu, then choose Extensions or Themes, then click the "Get more Extensions (or Themes)" link.

There are lots of Extensions and Themes (not all of them work for the most recent version of Firefox) - one you will may find useful is "Mouse Gestures".
