ok, I am being completely honest here, my friend gave me a powerbook g4, because he doesnt need it, because he moved to a different country. now before he gave it to me i forgot to ask him, if he had set up any password. and guess what... there is a password. I dont have any recovery cd or anything. Just the mac laptop and the charger. Is there a way I can reset the password...

If you know what version of OS X is on the computer and you have a friend with an install CD/DVD for that version you can reset the password from the Installer menu if you boot from the CD/DVD. If I were you, I would get a sopy of Panther or Tiger, erase the hard drive and start over clean. Otherwise, you have no idea what problems you may be inheriting with this machine.

the thing is that, i dont know his exact contact info... is there a way i can "crack the password" or I have seen poeple say "reset password" by using the boot cd?
