a script to sleep after ~30 minutes?

i have a script that quits itunes after 30mins, that i activate from itunes. however, if too many things are running (esp iPhoto) then the computer won't actually sleep after this. what i have noticed though is that if i press the power button on the front of the mac, it sleeps straight away, regardless.

therefore, i was wondering if anyone knew how to make a script to effectively 'press' that button 30 minutes after i run it, and force the computer to sleep?

delay 60 * 30
tell application "System Events" to sleep
