I will have the latest system software on it...but I would like to know what type of software should i download for it

As of now I plan to get MSN Chat & Quicktime Pro

I am a bit out of the loop of what good shareware/freeware etc is available so please give me some ideas!

Here are some of my favorite Apps (versiontracker.com):

SubEthaEdit - Text Editor
Audio Recorder - Records voice and saves to mp3/aiff
Adium - Allows you to talk to your AOL, MSN, and Yahoo buds.
SuperDuper - Backup Utility
Transmit - FTP client
Audio Hijack - Hijacks... audio
Amadeus II - Audio Editor
Marine Write - Word processor
GraphicConverter - It's like PhotoShop Lite
Google Earth - Good luck finding this :)

thanks for the reply dusky...I got audio hijack...graphic converter came with my powerbook...I really wish i could get google earth...

Anyone have any other suggestions?? Any top quality interface customization or things specific to a powerbook would be nice.... keep the ideas coming as I won't have access to the internet for a couple of weeks in a couple of days!

Google Earth for OS X is coming. Someone posted a link to a beta version a week or two ago. Turns out, it wasn't okay with Google.

So most of us will have to wait.

Here are just a few of my favorites:

Firefox 1.5 (free -- I'm still going back and forth between this and Safari)
VLC (free -- view almost any video file)
MPlayer (free -- some prefer this to VLC -- or use both)
Celestia (free from Sourceforge -- amazing astronomy app)
Mac_DAZStudio (free from www.daz3d.com -- 3d animation app)
NeoOffice (free port of OpenOffice.Org 1.x - implemented in Aqua)
DoomLegacy (free from Sourceforge, I think -- if you're a retro gamer)
FlightGear (free flight sim, haven't tried it yet, just got it)

Commercial programs:

Photoshop Elements 3
Splinter Cell (if you're a FPS gamer)
Microsoft Office 2004 (try NeoOffice first)

Is this PowerBook one of the newer ones? If so, you have the two-finger horizontal and vertical scroll on the trackpad--very cool!

Have fun.
