activating web sharing

I activated personal web sharing in order to host my own site on the internet. I tried to connect to http://myexternalIPaddress/~myusername but I am getting an error message:
Cannot load address
Temporarily unable to connect: connection refused

Any suggestions?

Try http://127.0.0.1/~your_home_name

if u can see your personal site, all works perfectly.

Your firewall is running?

Maybe your provider stop all requests to port 80 (maybe!!!), even if it's strange.

did you get an answer to your question? I tried the same but people told me that accessing that webshared site only works insinde your local network?

I succesfully published my site, it was accessible through other computers insinde the network but when i tried to access it outside, i got the same error as you - that you cannot acces the site.

So what is the solution???

I dont remember exactly but I am pretty sure that it worked after I set-up port forwarding on my Airport Base Station.

ahaha what a old thread =)
if you use a router you have to set the port forwarding to the webserver so the router can forward the request to the right address inside the lan
