Adaptec SCSI drivers for X are broken

Atleast, this is according to Dantz, who has for the time being stopped supporting anyone using Retrospect on OS X with Adaptec cards until Adaptec fixes the problem. Basically they say the drivers send bogus data to the devices, and can cause corruption and/or device failures.

Ofcourse, I do kinda believe this as I've yet to be able to get my Exabyte 8mm tape drive to work properly in OS X, works for awhile, then just freezes. See http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27381 for more information.

Brian,

I have one of those Adaptec cards (2906), but I stopped using my SCSI tape drive when I went to OS X. I now backup to an external firewire drive.

The card still works with my SCSI scanner (knock on wood). I guess I would be frustrated like you if I'd found out, the hard way, that the card was not reliable.

Has Adaptec given you any indication of a possible "fix"?
