I just bought a Mac power book with snow leopard. When I boot it start a bunch of applications that I dont want to start up. How do I modify the start up to delete these?

Go to System Preferences (from the Apple menu or from the dock), then select Users&Groups, then click Login Items. There you can stop stop auto-start applications.

Then go to System Preferences (from the Apple menu or from the dock), then select General and Turn on "Close Windows when quitting and Application", this will prevent application to re-open the windows that were open when you left.

And close applications before shutdown.

I don't think this applies in this case seeing as the OP is running Snow Leopard.
